Energizing Convention Center

This was a semester-long group project during my fourth year at Penn State.  Our half-mile-long site filled with old warehouses that used to house metal smelting was saturated in embedded energy.  As things decay, they leave a memory along with their skeleton, and the decaying masses transfer energy to other living organisms in the circle of life.  Therefore, we aimed to simply harness that emitted energy to continue the life of our site into the next chapter of its existence as a convention center complete with exhibition halls, hotel, and wellness center.  In order to demonstrate we were using the preexisting elements on the site, we literally kept its bones (structure), which were the core of the massive complex.  We not only celebrated this skeleton, but we also showcased the transference and harnessing of energy by implementing a variety of renewable energy technologies as well as an exhibit demonstrating the sustainable strategies used across the site.
